Two Iranian Australians Honoured at Victoria’s 2026 Multicultural Awards: Masoud Zoohori and Azadeh Doosti Recognised for Outstanding Contributions

Two Iranian Australians have received prestigious recognition at the 2026 Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence. Masoud Zoohori, founder of Radio Neshat, was inducted into the Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll, while community advocate Azadeh Doosti received the individual Refugee Leadership Award. In interviews following the ceremony, both dedicated their honours to the courageous people of Iran and expressed their hopes for a brighter future for their homeland.

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — Radio Neshat reports that the 2026 Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence were held on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at Government House in Melbourne.

The ceremony was hosted by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, and attended by the Honourable Ben Carroll MP, Premier of Victoria, alongside distinguished guests, community leaders and representatives of Victoria’s multicultural communities.

The event marked the 25th anniversary of the Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence, Australia's longest-standing multicultural awards program.

The awards recognise individuals and organisations whose outstanding contributions have strengthened social cohesion, promoted intercultural understanding, supported migrants and refugees, and helped build a more inclusive Victorian community.

This year, achievements were recognised across 13 award categories, while 23 individuals were inducted into the Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll in recognition of their exceptional and lasting contributions to multiculturalism in Victoria.

Masoud Zoohori Inducted into the Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll

Masoud Zoohori, founder and director of Radio Neshat, was inducted into the 2026 Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll in recognition of his longstanding contributions to multicultural media, community leadership and social cohesion in Australia.

The Honour Roll recognises individuals whose exceptional and enduring contributions have helped strengthen Victoria's multicultural society.

The official Victorian Government awards booklet describes his achievements as follows:

“Masoud is the founder of Radio Neshat, Australia’s 24/7 Persian-language media organisation. For more than 13 years, through trusted media, community leadership and innovative cultural intiatives, Masoud has empowered migrants and refugees, strengthened social cohesion and built lasting connections between multicultural communities and Australian institutions.”

This official recognition highlights the impact of Zoohori's work beyond the operation of a Persian-language media organisation, particularly in connecting migrant communities with Australian institutions and fostering greater community participation.

Radio Neshat began operating in Australia in 2014 and has developed into a 24-hour Persian-language media platform providing news, educational programming, cultural content and community information.

Through its broadcasts and digital platforms, Radio Neshat has sought to inform and empower Persian-speaking communities, promote cultural understanding and strengthen their connections with wider Australian society.

Zoohori's induction into the Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll represents formal recognition of his sustained media and community contributions at the state level.

His name, photograph and official profile appear on page 29 of the Victorian Government's 2026 awards booklet.

Azadeh Doosti Receives the Refugee Leadership Award

Azadeh Doosti, an Iranian-Australian community advocate, was another recipient of recognition at the ceremony, receiving the Refugee Leadership Award – Individual.

The award acknowledges outstanding leadership and contributions that support refugees and people seeking asylum, particularly through community engagement, advocacy and empowerment.

Since arriving in Australia in 2012, Doosti has actively supported newly arrived refugee women and families, helping them access essential services, build community connections and develop a sense of belonging.

The official Victorian Government awards booklet states:

“Azadeh has been an active volunteer and advocate for newly arrived refugee women and families since arriving in Australia in 2012. As a Community Hub Leader, Azadeh connects women to the school and wider community, ensuring families receive essential services, support and a sense of belonging in a new country - empowering refugee and asylum seeker women.”

Her work reflects the significant contribution that community volunteers and leaders make in supporting vulnerable families and helping newcomers navigate the challenges of settling in Australia.

The Refugee Leadership Award recognises Doosti's years of dedication to empowering refugee and asylum-seeking women and supporting families as they establish their lives in a new country.

Her photograph and official profile are featured on page 20 of the 2026 awards booklet.

Honours Dedicated to the Courageous People of Iran

Following the ceremony, Masoud Zoohori and Azadeh Doosti dedicated their respective honours to the courageous people of Iran during interviews.

Both expressed their deep affection for their homeland and their hopes for a brighter future for the Iranian people — one marked by freedom, peace, security, happiness and dignity.

Their messages reflected the enduring emotional and cultural ties that many Iranian Australians maintain with their country of origin.

Beyond their individual achievements, the dedication of these honours to the people of Iran carried a message of solidarity, hope and a shared aspiration for a better future for Iran and its people.

Messages from Victoria's Governor, Premier and Minister for Multicultural Affairs

Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, congratulated the award recipients and acknowledged the contributions of individuals who strengthen understanding, foster community connections and create opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to participate fully in Victorian society.

Her message highlighted that a thriving multicultural society depends not only on cultural diversity itself, but also on the commitment of people who actively build relationships, understanding and inclusion.

The Honourable Ben Carroll MP, Premier of Victoria, also congratulated the recipients, Honour Roll inductees and nominees.

In his official message, the Premier stated:

“Victoria’s multicultural communities are at the heart of our success.”

He thanked the award recipients, inductees and nominees for their contributions to strengthening Victoria's communities and the state as a whole.

The Honourable Paul Edbrooke MP, Minister for Multicultural Affairs, highlighted the significance of the awards' 25th anniversary.

In his official statement, the Minister described the year's nominees and recipients as champions of their communities and leaders who help define Victoria's multicultural story.

The Victorian Government has recognised the awards as an important platform for celebrating the achievements of people and organisations whose work strengthens the state's diverse communities.

Different Paths, a Shared Achievement for the Iranian-Australian Community

Masoud Zoohori and Azadeh Doosti have followed different professional and community paths, yet both have made contributions that have now received formal recognition from the Victorian Government.

Zoohori's work has focused on multicultural media, community communication, public information and building lasting connections between culturally diverse communities and Australian institutions.

Doosti's efforts have centred on volunteering, refugee advocacy, empowering women and helping newly arrived families access support and opportunities.

Their shared commitment to community empowerment, inclusion and social cohesion demonstrates the important role Iranian Australians can play in strengthening Australia's multicultural society.

These two honours represent more than individual achievements. They also highlight the capabilities, dedication and positive contributions of the Iranian-Australian community to the social and cultural life of Australia.

The induction of Masoud Zoohori into the Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll and the presentation of the Refugee Leadership Award to Azadeh Doosti demonstrate how sustained community leadership, service and dedication can earn recognition at one of Victoria's most significant official multicultural events.

Their achievements stand as a source of pride for the Iranian-Australian community and a reminder of the meaningful contributions migrants can make to the country they now call home.
