شرق ملبورن مسیر جدیدی برگزید؛ خداحافظی با سوکار، سلام به گرگ
مت گرگ(Matt Gregg)، وکیل، معلم سابق و چهره‌ای تازه‌نفس از حزب کارگر، در انتخابات فدرال ۲۰۲۵ با شکست مایکل سوکار از حزب لیبرال، موفق شد کرسی کلیدی حوزه دیکین در شرق ملبورن را از آنِ خود کند. این تحول یکی از نمادهای تغییر در رویکرد سیاسی شهروندان حومه‌ای ویکتوریا تلقی می‌شود.

در یکی از برجسته‌ترین نتایج انتخابات فدرال ۲۰۲۵، مت گرگ، نامزد حزب کارگر، موفق شد با اختلاف قابل توجهی، مایکل سوکار، نماینده باسابقه حزب لیبرال را از کرسی مجلس نمایندگان برای حوزه دیکین کنار بزند. حوزه دیکین، شامل مناطقی همچون رینگ‌وود، کرویدون، بلگریو و بخش‌هایی از شرق ملبورن، همواره یکی از حوزه‌های رقابتی و تعیین‌کننده در سیاست ملی استرالیا بوده است.
مایکل سوکار، که برای نخستین‌بار در سال ۲۰۱۳ به مجلس نمایندگان راه یافت، در دوره‌های بعدی نیز در انتخابات‌های سال‌های ۲۰۱۶، ۲۰۱۹ و ۲۰۲۲ مجدداً انتخاب شد. او در این مدت، سمت‌هایی چون وزیر خدمات اجتماعی، وزیر دادگستری و وزیر مسکن را برعهده داشت. با این حال، در سال ۲۰۲۵، با کاهش حمایت مردمی و تغییر رویکرد رأی‌دهندگان، کرسی خود را به رقیب حزب کارگر واگذار کرد.
مت گرگ، ساکن رینگ‌وود، سابقه فعالیت به عنوان معلم و وکیل را در کارنامه دارد و بیش از یک دهه است که در منطقه دیکین زندگی می‌کند. او در کمپین انتخاباتی خود بر موضوعات مهمی چون کاهش هزینه‌های زندگی، دسترسی به خدمات مراقبت از کودکان، کاهش بدهی‌های دانشجویی (HECS)، و حمایت از اقشار متوسط و کم‌درآمد تمرکز داشت. گرگ در انتخابات ۲۰۲۲ نیز در همین حوزه نامزد شده بود، اما با اختلافی ناچیز (فقط ۳۷۵ رأی) شکست خورد.
در یکی از نشست‌هایی که پس از پیروزی در منطقه برگزار شد و من نیز به‌عنوان یکی از میهمانان به آن دعوت شده بودم، مت گرگ بار دیگر بر وعده‌های پیش از انتخابات خود تأکید کرد و گفت که تحقق آن‌ها را وظیفه‌ای اخلاقی در قبال مردم دیکین می‌داند. در بخشی از سخنان خود، او با تقدیر از جامعه فارسی‌زبان منطقه، نقش آن‌ها را در تقویت بافت اجتماعی و فرهنگی شرق ملبورن «بسیار ارزشمند» توصیف کرد و قول داد که صدای آن‌ها را در پارلمان فدرال نمایندگی کند.
آنتونی آلبانیزی، نخست‌وزیر استرالیا، نیز پیش از انتخابات درباره مت گرگ گفته بود:
«مت، به‌عنوان یک وکیل و مربی، به عدالت اعتقاد راسخ دارد و می‌خواهد آینده‌ای برای جوانان بسازد که در مورد آن هیجان‌زده باشند. او نماینده‌ای فوق‌العاده برای مردم شرق ملبورن خواهد بود.»
گرگ پس از پیروزی در این انتخابات گفت که قصد دارد یک مسیر ارتباطی نزدیک با شهروندان حفظ کند و معتقد است هر روز در پارلمان باید به‌عنوان فرصتی برای دفاع از صدای مردم دیکین تلقی شود.
پیروزی او نه تنها یک تحول در حوزه محلی دیکین است، بلکه نماد تغییر سیاسی گسترده‌تری در ایالت ویکتوریا به‌ویژه در مناطق حومه‌ای محسوب می‌شود. حزب کارگر با چنین چهره‌هایی تلاش دارد که به نیازها و نگرانی‌های روزمره شهروندان پاسخ دهد و رویکردی مردمی‌تر در سطح فدرال ایجاد کند.

Matt Gregg, a lawyer, former teacher, and fresh face from the Labor Party, won the key seat of Deakin in Melbourne's east in the 2025 federal election, defeating Liberal veteran Michael Sukkar. The result marks a significant shift in the political preferences of suburban Victorians.

In one of the most notable outcomes of the 2025 federal election, Matt Gregg, Labor candidate for Deakin, defeated long-standing Liberal MP Michael Sukkar, securing a vital seat in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. The Division of Deakin—which includes suburbs such as Ringwood, Croydon, Belgrave, and surrounding areas—has long been considered one of the most marginal and influential electorates in national politics.
Michael Sukkar was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2013, and was re-elected in 2016, 2019, and 2022. Over the years, he served in senior roles including Minister for Housing, Minister for Social Services, and Assistant Treasurer. However, amid a visible decline in local support and growing demand for change, he lost the seat in 2025 to his Labor rival.
Matt Gregg, a Ringwood resident, has lived in the Deakin electorate for over a decade. With a professional background as a teacher and lawyer, his campaign focused on core cost-of-living issues, access to affordable childcare, student debt relief (HECS), and better support for working and middle-class families. He had previously run for the seat in 2022, narrowly losing by just 375 votes.
Following his victory, Gregg hosted a local post-election community meeting, to which I was personally invited as a guest. In that session, he reaffirmed his pre-election promises and described their delivery as a moral obligation to the people of Deakin. He also expressed sincere appreciation for the Persian-speaking community in the electorate, acknowledging their important contributions to the social and cultural fabric of eastern Melbourne. He pledged to be a voice for them in the federal parliament.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, speaking ahead of the election, had said:
"Matt, as a lawyer and a teacher, has a deep belief in justice and wants to help create a future young people can be excited about. He will be an outstanding representative for the people of eastern Melbourne."
Gregg has since stated that he intends to maintain close communication with local residents, emphasizing that every day in parliament should be treated as an opportunity to defend the voice of Deakin constituents.
His win is not only a local political shift but also symbolic of a broader transformation across Victoria’s suburban belt. With candidates like Gregg, the Labor Party seeks to offer practical, people-focused solutions and reshape federal leadership to better reflect the everyday needs of Australians.
